The simple reverence of that first Christmas, and the simple fun of family celebrations--both can be found on this album of familiar carols from various ages, along with two fresh originals, spun out through the collaboration of singer-songwriter Jeanne Kuhns and guitarist George Sawyn.


Jeanne, with her low, sultry voice and gentle folk/jazz style, and George, a master of the nuances of melody and harmony, reclaim this holy day from the theatrical choirs and almost secular versions of the old carols, and bring it back to the level of the Holy Family in the stable, and ordinary families celebrating in ordinary ways. From the “Cherry Tree Carol” of the middle-ages, to the reverence and simplicity of “Silent Night,” to the fun-loving “Christmas is Coming,” the pair deliver the spectrum of emotions that accompany this ancient holy day.


Shining brightly among the familiar tunes are the two originals. Jeanne’s “Mary’s Lullaby”  is a poignant look at that first Christmas through the eyes of a young woman facing the unknown with a mother’s hopes and dreams for her special child. Jeanne and George collaborated on the second original, “My Christmas Day,” a modern love story that goes well with an album celebrating the Divine love story of Christ’s birth.


This is a collection of songs presented in a way that conjures images of loving homes, lighted candles, a fire in the fireplace, and people celebrating heart-to-heart.
